HAKODATE Travel Tips

〜Hakodate through my lens: Real stories, Real advice〜

[April Diary] Spring is in the Air! Hakodate’s Cherry Blossoms are Just Around the Corner

Hello everyone! Today marks the beginning of April. In Japan, this is the start of the new fiscal and school year. Seeing people in their fresh uniforms or suits on the streets makes me feel refreshed and ready for a new start as well.

The Sakura Front is Moving North!

The highlight of spring in Japan is undoubtedly the cherry blossoms (Sakura). Currently, the trees are in full bloom across various parts of Honshu (the main island), and the “Sakura Front”—the wave of pink blossoms—is steadily moving north. After passing through the Tohoku region, it is finally about to reach us here in Hakodate, Hokkaido!

What’s the Latest Forecast for Hakodate?

According to the latest predictions released in late March, there is a possibility that the blossoms in Hakodate will arrive a bit earlier than usual this year.

While there are general indicators like the famous “600-degree rule,” I use my blog’s unique “30-day rule” to predict the peak bloom. Check out the link below for specific timing and details to help plan your trip!

Plan Ahead for Golden Week!

From the start of the bloom through the “Golden Week” holidays in early May, Hakodate and the rest of Hokkaido become incredibly lively—and very crowded. It is not uncommon for popular hotels and restaurants to be fully booked well in advance.

If you need any help with your Hakodate travel plans, such as:

  • “How crowded will this area be on these dates?”
  • “What is the best way to get around during peak season?”

…please feel free to reach out in the comments! I would be happy to help make your spring trip to Hakodate a wonderful and smooth experience.

I am looking forward to seeing the beautiful spring scenes with you all!

Enjoy every moment of your Hakodate journey, and travel safe!
