[Stay Report] Hotel Global View Hakodate Resorts:Worth the Stay for the Hot Spring & Breakfast!

Hello everyone! When you think of traveling to Hakodate, what comes to mind? For most travelers, it’s incredible seafood, top-tier hotel breakfasts, and deeply relaxing natural hot springs.

Recently, I stayed at “Hotel Global View Hakodate,” located just slightly away from the bustling station area.

As a local hotel professional, I’ve put together a thorough, honest review of this property—covering everything from the massive guest rooms to the 100% natural hot spring and the competitive breakfast buffet. Here is everything you need to know before you book your stay!

1. Access and First Impressions: Perfect for Road Trippers

Lobby

The moment you arrive, you are welcomed by a modern, high-ceilinged lobby with a wonderfully open atmosphere.

Location-wise, the hotel is about a 13-minute walk from JR Hakodate Station. If you are relying entirely on trains and public transit, it might not feel like the most convenient “station-front” spot. However, if you are renting a car to explore Hokkaido, this place is incredibly stress-free. The hotel features 5 spacious parking lots on and around the property, making parking completely hassle-free.

2. Room Review: Massive Living Space in the Superior King B

I stayed in the “Superior King B” room, which boasts a generous 33.3 square meters of space. The hotel consists of two buildings, and this specific room type is located in a section that appears to be a premium residential apartment beautifully renovated into hotel rooms.

The absolute best part of this room is the sheer amount of space. The living area features a large sofa and a separate dining table. There is so much open floor space that you can lay multiple large suitcases flat without ever feeling cramped.

Since my room faced east, the large windows offered an unobstructed, beautiful ocean view. I enjoyed a stunning moonlit night, a glorious sunrise, and on clear days, you can even see all the way to Aomori Prefecture across the channel!

💡 Small Details to Keep in Mind (Pros & Cons)

  • Bedside Power: There is only one electrical outlet by the bedside. If you are traveling as a couple and want to charge multiple phones or cameras right next to your pillow, you might need to take turns or bring a multi-port adapter.
  • Pajamas & Amenities: Comfortable, two-piece pajamas are provided on the bed. However, inside the room, the only complimentary amenities are green tea bags and toothbrushes. Other amenities require an extra fee, so I highly recommend bringing your own skincare and personal items.
  • Wi-Fi Environment (Important!): While free Wi-Fi is available, I found the connection to be quite unstable during my stay. If you need to do remote work or want to stream videos smoothly, using your smartphone’s hotspot (tethering) or a pocket Wi-Fi is highly recommended.
  • Key and A/C Quirks: The door uses a traditional insert-style card key rather than an automatic lock. You have to insert the card to lock the door manually when leaving. Also, while the A/C works perfectly fine, the room is so spacious that it can feel a bit chilly at night. Bringing a light jacket or extra layer is a smart move.

3. The Kitchenette: Can You Actually Cook Here?

Because these rooms are renovated apartment units, they come equipped with a sleek kitchen counter.

The cabinets are surprisingly well-stocked with a microwave, electric kettle, refrigerator, plates, mugs, cutlery, a frying pan, and a deep cooking pot. There is even a sleek, hidden trash bin setup for easy recycling.

However, there are a few practical downsides to note before planning to cook. The kitchen does not provide chopsticks, cooking seasonings, dish soap, sponges, or dishcloths.

Unlike some other apartment-style hotels in Hakodate that offer seasoning rentals or dishwashing sets, you won’t find them here. Instead of trying to cook a meal from scratch, it is best to use this kitchenette simply for reheating takeout food or plating convenience store snacks.

4. The Hot Spring: Pure Relaxation with 100% Natural Spring Water

One of the biggest highlights of this hotel is its large public bath supplied by its own on-site hot spring source.

The entire bath area has been beautifully renovated. Everything from the changing rooms to the modern Japanese-style relaxation lounge is immaculately clean and incredibly comfortable.

The spring water itself is beautifully clear and colorless. Along with a spacious indoor bath, there is an outdoor bath (Rotenburo) where you can catch a fresh breeze, as well as a high-quality sauna. It is the absolute perfect way to melt away the fatigue of a long flight or drive.

5. The Breakfast Buffet: Holding Its Ground in Hakodate’s “Breakfast War”

Hakodate hotels are famous nationwide for their fierce “Breakfast Wars,” with each property trying to outdo the other. The buffet at Hotel Global View Hakodate absolutely holds its own with high-quality offerings.

The standout feature is the build-your-own seafood丼 (Kaisen-don) and tempura bowl station, where you can pile on fresh seafood to your heart’s content. They place a strong emphasis on using local ingredients from the Hakodate region, featuring many dishes cooked with a delicate, savory Japanese dashi broth. It is well worth booking the breakfast-inclusive plan!

6. Extra Perks: Souvenirs & Gachapon!

Right in the lobby, there is a fun corner lined with classic Japanese Gachapon (capsule toy) machines—a detail that global travelers always find charming.

Additionally, the hotel’s souvenir shop is incredibly well-stocked. Beyond cold drinks and local beers, they carry iconic Hokkaido sweets and snacks—and they even sell frozen King Crab legs! It’s a great place to pick up some authentic Hokkaido gifts right before you pack up.

Conclusion

While Hotel Global View Hakodate has a few points to keep in mind—such as its distance from the station, weaker Wi-Fi, and the bare-bones kitchen setup—the payoffs are massive. The incredible room sizes, the 100% natural hot spring, and the high-caliber breakfast offer fantastic cost-performance.

If you are traveling Hakodate by car or looking for a spacious, apartment-style stay where you can live like a local, this hotel is an excellent choice.
